22-23 June 2001
These recordings were made using a Sony ECM-717 stereo microphone and the Sony MZ-R700 minidisc recorder. Tiny, and stealthy, the ECM-717 its great for places where the big Crown SASS-P mike would be a problem.
CTMS01_Eskin.mp3 - Merry Blacksmith and Cooley's Reel. I'm playing the Uilleann pipes on this set. Olivier Olonguet on bouzouki.
CTMS01_Reels.mp3 - Reel set from the Saturday night mega-session. Crowded room, about 30 players, incredible energy, a powerful set ending with "The Gravel Walk".
CTMS01_Christa.mp3 - Christa Burch sings a memorable solo.
Click here for photos of the Friday night session.

Awesome_Trio.mp3 - Melanie Nolley (fiddle), Olivier Olonguet (bouzouki), and Steve Forman (bodhran) rock out on a reel set.
Merrily_Jig_Set.mp3 - A lovely set of jigs. I'm on tenor banjo on this set.
Scholar_Set.mp3 - Elaine Thompson (whistle) kicks off this energetic set of reels.
Christa.mp3 - Christa Burch sings a solo. A little background noise from the ice machine compressor in the pub, but such a lovely tune that I had to include it.
For the majority of the recordings the microphone used was a Crown SASS-P MK II stereo PZM mike. The mixer is a Samson Mixpad-4, which is battery powered and provides phantom power to the microphone. The recorder is a Sony MZ-R700 portable minidisc recorder. Recordings are captured digitally to a Macintosh using a Digidesign AudioMedia sound card and ProTools software. Final compression to MP3 done using SoundJam software from Casady and Greene.
I play tenor banjo, octave mandolin, whistle, and Uilleann pipes depending on my mood and the needs of the session.
